Working in a body shop, you see what happens to paint over time. You see cars come in with clear coat polished so thin there's nothing left to work with. You see brand new cars where someone's put a coating straight over dealer-installed swirl marks and sealed them in for four years. Most of it wasn't malicious. It was just people working fast, outdoors, without measuring anything. So the workshop was set up around the opposite approach. Enclosed bay, proper inspection lighting, paint depth gauge on every job, and a hard rule that we don't start until we know what we're working with.
